Healing Miracles In God's Word
Part One
This page focuses on a
more thorough look at some of the healing miracles written in
God's Word. Contrary to the theology of some religious
circles; healing miracles are still for today. How do we know? We
know from the Word of God. Additionally, how many times have we
watched the news to see a healing miracle from God confound doctors,
who generally account such things to "luck" or something "warranting
further investigation". Always consider the Word of God the
final authority.
God is a healing God. It is His desire for us to have healthy
bodies. We do have some role to play in this however, that is, to
take care of the bodies He has given us. Our bodies are not our own,
rather they are His. Bad eating habits, sexual immorality
encompassing high risk behavior, excessive alcohol and drugs
including smoking can open the door to sickness and disease. It can
also ruin relationships, and influence social interaction and job
performance negatively. There are however, many times when the Lord
will extend His grace and healing power even when we make bad
choices which impact our health negatively. This is where repentance
comes in, and a person turns from such things.
I Corinthians 6: 19-20
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy
Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your
own? 20 For
ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and
in your spirit, which are God's.
Romans
12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of
God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable
service.
God has made provision for physical and mental
healing. Many people think mental illness is somehow beyond His reach,
or that medicine will cure these things. I have
yet to meet anyone totally cured from mental illness from
pills. Mental illness often involves demonic activity. As far as
healing ministries and ministers go, never forget, the power is
from God, not of the person praying over you, or laying hands on
you. These individuals are simply vessels, and all believers possess
the ability to lay hands on the sick and see them recover.
Notice, according to verse 17 in the following passage, the believer
must "believe" for this power to flow through them.
Mark 16:15-18
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach
the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is
baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be
damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my
name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new
tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they
drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands
on the sick, and they shall recover.
From these verses demonstrated above in
Mark 16, we see that Jesus commanded this to the New
Testament Church. In the
following
New Testament account, we see a disciple named Ananias, who not only
had a vision (notice he was not attributed the title of an apostle or
a prophet, but as a "disciple" ), but layed hands on Saul of Tarsus
and from there God ministered to Saul (Paul) through this
man. God can impart a vision to anyone, and use any
believer to administer
healing and miracles to another person through His
power. These things are not just limited to a select group,
such as apostles or prophets, for which i say thank God...because
too many are consumed with themselves as it is. But let me
return to the matter at hand-- Ananias.
Acts 9:10-18
10 And there was a certain
disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a
vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here , Lord. 11 And
the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is
called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called
Saul of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 12 And hath seen in a
vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him,
that he might receive his sight. 13 Then Ananias answered, Lord,
I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy
saints at Jerusalem: 14 And here he hath authority from the chief
priests to bind all that call on thy name. 15 But the Lord said
unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my
name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of
Israel: 16 For I will show him how great things he must suffer
for my name's sake. 17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into
the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the
Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest,
hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled
with the Holy Ghost. 18 And immediately there fell from his
eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight
forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
Someone may protest here and say that was for
the apostles of the early church. These accounts were written for
our benefit, they are not history lessons to see who scores an A+
for head knowledge. There is a reason for everything written in the
Word of God. Lets take a look at James and Corinthians of the
administration of the Holy Ghost for the present day
Church.
James 5:14-15
14 Is any sick among you?
let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over
him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the
prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him
up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven
him.
I Corinthians
12:4-11
4 Now there are
diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are
differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there
are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh
all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to
every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit
the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same
Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the
gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of
miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to
another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of
tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame
Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
I Corinthians
12:28-30
28 And God hath set some
in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly
teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps,
governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all
prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all
speak with tongues? do all interpret?
God in His own mercifulness will extend healing
to a person. Also, consider the fact that God made provision for
healing to be
an extension of His mercifulness.
Although provision for healing was made through Jesus Christ,
sometimes certain sins will open the door for illness into a person's
life. Concerning mercy, read what Paul wrote below in Philippians:
Philippians 2:25-27
25 Yet I supposed it
necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in
labor, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that
ministered to my wants. 26 For he longed after you all, and was
full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been
sick. 27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but
God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I
should have sorrow upon sorrow.
Do
not forget what John
10:10 says.
John10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they
might have it more abundantly.
Not all demonic
attacks, all sickness, or calamities are a result of direct sin in
someone's life. We have an enemy, Satan, who seeks to steal, kill and
destroy. A Christian can live a godly life, love God with all their heart
and mind, and face persecution from the enemy. In fact all who
live godly in Christ will face persecution, and even those living for
the enemy face it. We all encounter trials, and because you
encounter difficulties does not necessarily mean its because of sin or disobedience in
your life.
2 Timothy
3:12
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus
shall suffer persecution.
Paul was without a question, a godly man
which loved Jesus Christ with all his heart and soul, yet he faced all
sorts of persecution. With injuries and without injuries. He casted out
devils as we know from the account of the woman with a
spirit of divination (Acts 16:16-18). These churches saying anyone living right will always
be "eating the good of the land" and therefore if you
were walking right with God, you would not have such and such
trial--is reading select pieces of the Word. Namely, the pieces
which suit them best, and their agendas. And they have such appeal,
because a slick message is an appealing one. Yet let
these ministers have a problem, and Paul comes back to their remembrance even if he
escapes their memories concerning their congregations.
Due
to the length of the page, and the desire to go through specific
healing miracles, I will break the page off here, and extend it to
