The Fulfillment of Old Testament
Prophecies
Presented below are a
selection of Old Testament prophecies fulfilled through Jesus.
This is just a list of a few them, so that one can examine through
scriptures that Jesus--Yeshua--is indeed the Messiah.
In purple, the Old
Testament prophecy is displayed. The passages of the fulfillment of
that prophecy will be displayed in red.
*sketch of Isaiah
Micah 5:2
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the
thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that
is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old,
from everlasting.
Matthew 2:1 Now when
Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king,
behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Hebrews
7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of
Judah; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
Revelation 5:5 And one
of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe
of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to
loose the seven seals thereof.
Isaiah 7:13-14
13
And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small
thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God
also? 14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin
shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
Matthew 1:18-20
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on
this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before
they came together, she was found with child of the Holy
Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not
willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away
privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the
angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou
son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that
which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall
bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that
it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,
saying, 23 Behold, a virgin
shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall
call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with
us
.
*The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob
Genesis 17:7 And I will
establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in
their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto
thee, and to thy seed after thee.
Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation
of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Hebrews 2:16 For verily he took not
on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of
Abraham.
Genesis 17:17-19
17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his
heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old?
and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? 18 And Abraham
said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! 19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee
a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will
establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant,
and with his seed after him.
Romans
9:7 Neither, because
they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac
shall thy seed be called.
Hebrews
11:17-18
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he
that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy
seed be called:
Genesis
28:13-14
13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD
God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon
thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 14 And thy seed
shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to
the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and
in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be
blessed.
Luke
1:30-33
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast
found favor with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy
womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He
shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the
Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign
over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be
no end.
Isaiah
9:6-7
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The
Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government
and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon
his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with
justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts
will perform this.
Acts
13:22-23
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to
be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have
found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which
shall fulfil all my will. 23 Of this man's seed hath God
according to his promise raised unto Israel a Savior,
Jesus:
Isaiah
55:3-5
3 Incline your
ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will
make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of
David. 4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a
leader and commander to the people. 5 Behold, thou shalt call a
nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall
run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of
Israel; for he hath glorified thee.
Hosea
2:23 And I will sow
her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that
had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my
people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my
God.
Romans
9:24-26
24 Even us, whom
he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the
Gentiles? 25 As he saith also in Hosea, I will call them my
people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not
beloved. 26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it
was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called
the children of the living God.
Isaiah
8:13-15
13 Sanctify
the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be
your dread. 14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone
of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel,
for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 15 And
many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be
snared, and be taken.
Romans
9:31-32
31 But Israel,
which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to
the law of righteousness. 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it
not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they
stumbled at that stumblingstone; 33 As it is written, Behold, I
lay in Zion a stumblingstone and rock of offense: and whosoever
believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Psalms
110:2-4
2 The LORD shall
send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of
thine enemies. 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy
power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning:
thou hast the dew of thy youth. 4
The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest forever
after the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews
7:7-11
11 If
therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it
the people received the law,) what further need was there that
another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not
be called after the order of Aaron? 12 For the priesthood being
changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. 13
For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe,
of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 14 For it is
evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah; of which tribe Moses
spake nothing concerning priesthood. 15 And it is yet far more
evident: for that after the similitude of Melchizedek there ariseth
another priest, 16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal
commandment, but after the power of an endless life. 17 For he
testifieth, Thou art a priest forever after the order of
Melchizedek.
Isaiah
40:1-5
1 Comfort ye,
comfort ye my people, saith your God. 2 Speak ye comfortably to
Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that
her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand
double for all her sins. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the
wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the
desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall
be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And
the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it
together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it .
Luke
3:3-6
3 And he came into
all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance
for the remission of sins; 4 As it is written in the book of the
words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the
wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths
straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and
hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough ways shall be made smooth; 6 And all flesh shall
see the salvation of God.
Isaiah
11:1-2
1 And there shall
come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow
out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon
him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel
and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the
LORD;
Luke
4:18 The Spirit of
the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the
gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Exodus
14:26 In one house
shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth aught of the flesh
abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone
thereof.
Psalms
34:20 He keepeth all
his bones: not one of them is broken.
Psalms
22:16 For dogs have
compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they
pierced my hands and my feet.
John
19:33-37
33 But when they
came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they broke not his
legs: 34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side,
and forthwith came there out blood and water. 35 And he that saw
it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith
true, that ye might believe. 36 For these things were done, that
the Scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be
broken. 37 And again another Scripture saith, They shall look on
him whom they pierced.
Psalms
22:18 They part my
garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
John
19:23-24
23 Then the
soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made
four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat
was without seam, woven from the top throughout. 24 They
said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots
for it, whose it shall be: that the Scripture might be fulfilled,
which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture
they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers
did.
Psalms
69:21 They gave me
also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to
drink.
Mark
15:23-25
23 And they gave
him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. 24
And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting
lots upon them, what every man should take. 25 And it was the
third hour, and they crucified him.
